Meet Dr. Rob Myers, DO, Board Certified Neurologist and founder of Navira Brain and Body! Dr. Myers shows his passion for this work the moment you meet him. As a Doctor of Osteopathy and Board Certified Neurologist, he brings a rare and powerful combination of expertise to the care of people living with depression, chronic pain, and headaches - and his approach is personal, holistic, and deeply accessible. Navira Brain and Body was founded with one specific goal: to make Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) more accessible. TMS has traditionally required 30 to 40 sessions over several months - a major commitment that often means people only consider it after everything else has failed. Dr. Myers uses a newer, FDA-cleared protocol that takes just six sessions, making it possible to offer this treatment earlier, when someone first starts to feel stuck - not as a last resort. Dr. Myers works closely with therapists and mental health providers, using TMS to create neuroplasticity so the brain is more open to change and patients can get more out of therapy. He also offers Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) as a complementary treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic pain. Kara's takeaway: Dr. Myers' passion and authenticity are palpable. His work felt so aligned with Tree of Hope Counseling's mission that Kara invited him to educate TOHC providers about TMS so the team can make appropriate referrals. If you or someone you know has felt like they have run out of options for depression, chronic pain, or headaches - please know that you have not. Dr. Myers and Navira Brain and Body are here, and they are doing something truly special. Read our full conversation below! When was your business founded and what inspired its development? Navira Brain and Body was founded with a very specific goal - to make TMS more accessible. For a long time, TMS has been limited by the way it’s delivered. The traditional model — 30 to 40 sessions over a couple of months — is a big time and financial commitment. Because of that, it usually ends up being something people only consider much later, often after a lot of other treatments haven’t worked. That never made sense to me. If something is effective, it should be available when people actually need it — not just when they meet certain criteria or can take on that kind of burden. What really changed things was the development of a newer, FDA-cleared protocol that can be done in just six sessions. That opens the door to thinking about TMS very differently, as something that can be used earlier, whenever we feel our patient needs it and not just when insurance will approve it. That’s what led to Navira. Creating a model where people can access the right treatment when they need it so they can feel better, and stay better. How does your business support mental health and wellness in our local community? My practice exists to support patients and mental health practitioners. When working with other practitioners, my role is not to modify your therapy or what to change in your treatment course, my work is meant to compliment yours. I use TMS to not only stimulate the mood circuit of the brain, but also create neuroplasticity so the brain is more open to change. There’s a growing body of evidence that TMS can enhance therapy, which is why I like working closely with therapists, not replacing what they’re doing, but helping patients get more out of it. And that’s really exciting. At the end of the day, it’s about getting the right treatment to the right patient at the right time, and helping people move forward instead of feeling like they’ve run out of options. What makes your business different from others that may offer similar service? I offer two approaches to TMS. For some patients, the traditional protocol, which is 30 to 40 sessions over 2 months and often covered by insurance, still makes sense. But what I’ve found is that a lot of people either don’t qualify for that, or it just doesn’t fit into their lives. The real value I’m trying to bring to the community is a more accessible option. I use a newer, FDA-cleared protocol that’s done in just six 25 minutes sessions, which makes it much more practical and more affordable for patients to actually follow through. This changes when we can think about using TMS. Traditionally, it’s something that comes later, after multiple treatments haven’t worked. This makes it easier to consider earlier, when someone first starts to feel stuck. How does your own journey or life experience shape how you show up in your work? Depression has been something I am both professionally and personally familiar with. Having had loved ones with depression for whom medication will never be something they consider, I understand the importance of having effective alternatives to medication. And I actually lost a friend to suicide last November, someone who hid it very well. These experiences give me a greater sense of purpose in what I am doing, they have helped me understand that we need every available option to help our patients and loved ones with depression. Business ownership can be stressful - how do you take care of your own mental health and wellness? For me, it comes down to being present. I try to spend a little time each day slowing down, observing my thoughts, and grounding myself. I truly believe that “Happiness is born of compassion” and that compassion is born of self awareness. That mindset carries into how I treat patients and how I approach this work. Affirmation statements have also been very helpful for me. I tend to default to pessimism, so positive affirmations have really helped me break free from maladaptive perspectives. It might seem silly, but regularly using an affirmation statement is actually just reprogramming your mind to default to a more healthy perspective. If people were to take away a feeling or message after experiencing your business, what would you want that to be? You are not out of options. You can feel better.
